TEETHING: THE “ONE OF A KIND”

Updated: Mar 7, 2022

Book Review: Teething by Megha Rao

You guys know that when I write a review for a book, I add a one liner in the title itself about the book. However, this time I am so full (literally) that I am out of any catchy, mesmerizing portrayal of the book. The book “Teething” by Megha Rao is indeed “one of a kind” whether it be the writing style or the selection of ways in which the writer/ poetess just flows with her emotions. I have a confession to make. I was going through a reading slump but then the universe conspired and brought this book to me, and I was immediately out of it. If this is not a book-reader connection, then I don’t know what is. Life was throwing lemons on me, and I was squeezing it in my eyes until I found this book which helped me make a lemonade out of it. Some books are therapy, and this book indeed is one such kind.

The book is divided into three parts which portray the life cycle of a person starting from innocent childhood moving on to a rebellious youth and then the mindful adulthood when everything starts making more sense. The traumas you went through don’t make you sad anymore because you wear them as scars that make you yourself and you own it with pride. After reading this book, I am convinced that every reader on Earth will resonate at least to some extent with it. The fearless writing of the writer is what makes it distinct. Not everyone is vulnerable and empowering at the same time. The poems and the short write-ups of the book are so gripping that you may want to close it at multiple instances and take deep sighs to soak in every word of it. You will want to continue it forever.

I painted the book in rainbow colors as I want to come back to them whenever life knocks me down. However, I would like to quote one sentence as I always do, “Because the world breaks you, and you will take your revenge by healing. Empowering? I know!

I would also like to mention one distinct thing about the book, the ‘Foreword’. It is such a beautiful piece of writing by Gurmehar Kaur that it will convince you to read further on by giving a glimpse of the life of the author. Well! What else can I say more about this book when it is already praised by eminent figures like Shashi Tharoor and Naseeruddin Shah. So, what are you waiting for? Go grab a copy for yourself, curl up and soak in the masterpiece.

Happy Reading!
